The snapshot
The Bahamas is a country of hundreds of islands, and the first decision is which one. Nassau and Paradise Island are a short hop from Florida: casinos, Atlantis, cruise ships, and beaches that are fine. The pale sandbars and that impossible turquoise are mostly in the Exumas and other Out Islands, which means a second flight or a long boat day. Do not book Nassau expecting Exuma.
Hurricane season June–November. The islands sit in a busy part of the Atlantic track. Autumn trips need flexible tickets and insurance.
Pros
- Nassau is one of the easiest warm-weather weekends from Florida and the East Coast
- The Exumas and other Out Islands really do look like the photographs
- English-speaking, US-dollar friendly, and used to first-time visitors
- Snorkeling, pigs-on-a-beach day trips, and serious diving if you pick the right island
Cons
- Nassau on a cruise day is crowded, commercial, and not the postcard people packed for
- Food and taxis are expensive; all-inclusives exist because the à-la-carte bill hurts
- Out Islands need extra flights that cancel in weather
- Paradise Island can feel like an American mall with a lagoon

Paradise Island is a bridge and a toll from Nassau. Agree taxi fares. Walking between properties is not the plan in the heat with bags.
Domestic flight
Nassau to Exuma, Eleuthera, Abaco, and the rest of the Out Islands.
Bahamasair and small carriers. Bags and weather matter. Same-day international-to-domestic connections are tight; a Nassau night is calmer.
Day boats and ferries
Exuma day trips from Nassau, plus local mailboats if you like a story.
A Nassau-based Exuma boat day is long and weather-dependent. Mailboats are real transport, not a tourist product. Rent a car on Exuma if you want beaches beyond the hotel.
